Painting Jewels and Gemstones
Painting jewels and gemstones can be a pain because it is hard to simulate their translucent qualities. One trick is to basecoat the stone with silver (I use Testors chrome enamel for the most metallic of finishes). Now, go back and paint the jewel with a Tamiya clear color such as red, blue, or green. The light will travel through the clear color, hit the reflective chrome color and bounce back to simulate the sparkle!
